Essential top tips for rainy days on holiday
In the UK it rains. There is no getting away from this fact. If we stayed indoors every time rain was forecast, we wouldn't leave the house for months, let alone go camping. So what is the number one answer to bad weather preparation? According to the guys at Campingninja HQ, and they should know, it's a simple matter of attitude.Closely followed by wellies, waterproofs, back up plan, pub and umbrella! Here are some Campingninja tips to help you on your way.- Check the weather forecast before you leave. Obvious but often overlooked.
- Pack necessary waterproofs and wellies.
- Invest in some large plastic boxes. £6-10 Perfect for camping and all your food and utensils will remain dry whatever happens.
- Pack extra towels. They will come in handy, as the ones you have may not dry quick enough. Pack an old one for drying the inside of the tent floor should things get bad.
- Research the area before departure. Look on the campsite's page and find out what they talk about within walking distance and nearby.
- Look up local swimming pools if you have kids. Great way to spend half a day. A waterpark would be even better.
- Try a local Cinema.
- Play the Brown sign lottery. Visit the tourist attraction at the end of every 3rd Brown tourist sign. The Campingninja team have ended up at a Tank Museum, Brewery and Cotton Mill. All highly recommended!
- If National Trust houses are your thing then brilliant. If not, then jump on a local bus or train and explore a new town. Cream teas are a must and we guarantee you’ll have fun.
- Get to know your local pub obviously but they only open at 11am. Plan a circular walk between 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 country pubs. If you are going to get wet, who cares when you are aiming for a pub. Life needs a little direction.
- Take an extra ground sheet to help out under the tent or at the entrances of your tent.
- Hit the beach and go for a swim. Can't get any wetter than that.
- Try a new sport. Loads of places offer taster and beginner sessions for activities like surfing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and sailing.
- Explore a local museum. Always interestingly quirky.
Above all it all come down to attitude. It always seems to rain from Friday to Monday but with a little planning and a sense of adventure camping trips needn't be a nightmare. For more top tips, checklists, instructional videos come and see us at campingninja.com-ends-
Editor's NotesCampingninja was founded by Geoff Vaughan and Rhian Evans (they love camping) in September 2009. The Campingninja idea was born from frustration when trying to find and book campsites themselves.Campingninja won the TTG’s “The Big Idea” Competition (a Dragon's Den Style travel industry prize where they were competing with 32 other businesses for the investment from four travel entrepreneurs) in September 2009.Campingninja was established with the goal of enabling as many people as possible to easily find and book a campsite online, mirroring the customer experience people have when booking other types of accommodation, such as hotels, hostels and B&Bs. This type of service has not been available to campers or campsites until now.Campingninja allows all campsites, large and tiny, to have a level playing field and platform to sell their pitches – no set up fees or advertising costs or advantages for those with bigger budgets. It's all about giving campers a real choice.Campingninja is supported by various tourism organisations including Visit Cornwall, South West Tourism, Northamptonshire Enterprise, Visit Peak District and the Green Business Tourism Scheme.Campingninja is even supported by a ninja who camps around the UK representing us – people love him!Useful links for Campingninja:Campingninja website: www.campingninja.comCampingninja Facebook PageCampingninja Twitter PageContact:Rhian Evans Director and FounderCampingninja07515265107rhian@campingninja.comGeoff VaughanDirector and FounderCampingninja07866 822290geoff@campingninja.com
