Camping, snorkelling and a peat bog. The perfect mix for a muddy Bank Holiday weekend with a difference! On 28th August at Waen Rhydd peat bog, near Llanwrtyd Wells in Wales, a host of crazy competitors from all over the world will battle it out in a sixty-yard peat bog for the coveted title of Bog Snorkelling Champion.
Attracting several hundred competitors each year, contestants from the age of 14 and up, aim to swim two lengths of the 60-yard Waen Rhydd peat bog with flippers and a snorkel in the fastest time.
There are different categories for entrants including juniors, fancy dress, women's and men's, and in 2006 one bog-tastic female snorkeller entered to celebrate her 70th birthday!Click here to find and book a great campsite near the Bog Snorkelling Championships
