Egremont Crab Fair and Sports was established in 1267, which makes it one of the oldest fairs in the world.  It combines a unique mix of ancient and traditional events with modern features and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Perhaps the most popular event of the fair is the World Gurning Championships.  The art of pulling ugly faces has been an Egremont tradition for centuries.

Other attractions include donkey rides, wheelbarrow races, greasy pole, water ball walking, an owl display and an onion competition, plus many more.

The World Gurning Championships may not be pretty, but with the picturesque Lake District National Park not far away from Egremont, there are some great campsites to stay at in some very beautiful settings nearby!
