According to parks
charity Greenspace, organisers of Love Parks Week, 91% of people believe that
parks and open spaces improve their quality of life. Local authorities are not
legally required to provide, invest in or maintain public parks, despite the
fact that over 33 million people in England use these resources and that it has
been proven that an invigorating daily walk in your local park can decrease
your risk of hearts attacks, strokes and diabetes, not to mention various types
of cancer. Love Parks Week is hoping to promote these benefits to the masses
with an aim to get one million people to visit their local park by hosting a
range of events and activities from teddy bears picnics, taster tennis
sessions, orienteering and afternoon tea parties.
