The South West lakes Trust is an environmental and recreational charity which manages all of the inland water areas spread across Devon, Cornwall and West Somerset. They manage a total of 50 inland sites where facilities and opportunities for activities vary. There are way-marked walks, watersports, routes for cycling, camping areas, superb fishing areas and great spots for picnicking and relaxing amongst many other things. At Campingninja we're big fans and very happy to be working with the Trust -
you can book all South West Lakes Trust Campsites through Campingninja...
Walking and CyclingSW Lakes have a total of 150km of paths of varied terrain which cater for everyone's needs, especially families. There is a wealth of wildlife to discover as the paths follow the shorelines of the lakes, as well as routes on higher ground where you can meander through woodlands and open moorlands. All routes are clearly signed whether public bridleways or specific walking and cycling routes. Some of the paths are relatively level and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, others are more challenging - whatever your ability, there is something for you here.
The Trust have put together a series of
downloadable leaflets which tell you all you need to know and enable you to confidently select a leisurely stroll, and active cycle or a challenging hike.

Green TourismIt is clear that South West Lakes Trust is committed to environmental and recreational stability. This is primarily evident by the fact that all of their campsites are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme with 4 of them achieving Gold status and 1 Silver. Every aspect of their operation is undertaken with an acute awareness and respect for the environment around them, local industries and global resources. They closely monitor their water usage and waste alongside making concerted efforts to reduce their fuel consumption. Food is supplied by local producers in order to reduce food miles and also to support the local economy. These measures combined with the Trust's dedication to carbon footprint, and specifically emissions, reduction mean by staying here and enjoying what the lakes have to offer, you are supporting a great effort.
ConservationAs well as the tourism specifics the Trust also:
- has specially designated nature reserves and special protection zones set aside for conservation purposes;
- has a wide-ranging environmental projects;
- has put together bio-diversity management and plans;
- looks after built heritage remains;
- offers the opportunity for people to get involved by volunteering for conservation projects and wildlife recording.
