Campfires create a fantastic atmosphere on any campsite. Use them as a focal point for your group or family tribe.
Campfires are great for warming up after a long walk or bike ride or for cooking up a storm.
If you know before setting off that
campfires are possible then make sure you are prepared. Grab the old kettle, big pan or skillet and get cooking. You get some serious kudos points for cooking on an open fire.
Equally let the flames die down and get BBQing. Grab the rack from your BBQ at home (or if no-one is looking the grill pan) and off you go! The Campingninja Team's favourite is grilled fish stuffed with herbs and sweet potatoes from the ashes. Simply chuck the potatoes directly on the ashes and leave for 30-40mins. The skins will blacken but don't panic. The middle will be beautifully creamy when scooped out.
Some campsites do not allow campfires but many do and if it is an important part of your camping experience then make sure you
find a campsite which does allow campfires.

Some provide special fire pits specifically designed and designated while others provide fire pit bases like large tractor wheels. Most campsites supply wood which is locally sourced either on site or very close by. Campsites and ourselves urge you not to go stripping branches off trees. Ask the campsite and they will advise you properly. We also recommend at least a 6m gap between your campfire and your tent.
Have a great time with your campfire and please send us you recipes for a classic campfire meal so we can share them and pass them on!
