As you know 2012 is a huge year for the British holiday, with all the excitement of the Jubilee and the Olympics on our doorstep there is even more reason to enjoy some of the fantastic sights and scenery that the UK has to offer, but have you thought about how you could combine your love of camping with this summers events?
You may not have Olympic tickets but that doesn't mean you can't get involved in the action as there will also be a whole host of free events taking place! And what's great is that we now have 7 temporary campsites all in close proximity to the events for only £10 per night for adults, £5 for children! Two of our sites are based at the heart games, these are Eton Manor RFC and Blackheath Rugby, where you are in easy reach of tours around the Olympic Stadium and you can really soak up the Olympic fever!
For those of you who are less keen to be in the thick of it then we also have the following sites based in great locations outside of London, close to some of the fantastic free stuff and host of local attractions:
Weymouth College & Redlands Community Sports Hub: Weymouth and Portland Bay is a natural amphitheatre and there are several vantage points where you can watch the sailing events if you don't have tickets. The college is set on the stunning Jurassic coastline and the sports hub is less than 2 miles further out, both are really accessible to Weymouth Town Centre and the beach where there will be a range of cultural activities during the games, including Weymouth's very own opening ceremony! There are also many spectacular sites to explore throughout Dorset, so why not take the opportunity to investigate!
Surbiton Hockey Club (soon to be launched): Surbiton is located on the outskirts of London close to some fabulous green spaces including, Bushy Park and Hampton Court Gardens where the Time Trials will be taking place, in fact the Time Trials almost head straight through Surbiton and of course it's all free to watch. This club is also easily accessible to Central London, so it's great if you want to do a bit of urban exploring or if you want to watch the Marathon!
Wodson Park, Ware: Situated in the picturesque town of Ware, Wodson Park boasts fantastic facilities, including a 400m running track, fitness suite, indoor courts, play scheme plus much more and it only takes 45 minutes to get to the Olympic Park and less than hour to Central London! Also as Wodson Park is just off the M25 there are loads of great sites such as Knebworth House less than 30 minutes away. This club is perfect for families to stay who want to soak up some of the action in a more relaxed environment!
Reading RFC: Situated in Sonning on Thames this is a great site to try out some rowing of your own nearby! Aside from being easily accessible to central London, you are also in close reach of Windsor Castle, Lego Land, Hampton Court Palace and of course the Thames Path, plus many other exciting sites!
Hopefully this may have given you some inspiration for your 2012 adventures, happy planning!
