The Secret Diary of a Camping Ninja: The Ninja 500

It was very much time to put the FTSE 100 to bed.  The weekend was here and this game of numbers was more about choosing some hopefully lucky lottery numbers, and the Ninja 500 – a Camping Ninja’s 500 tell-tale signs that the Spring/Summer 2012 camping season is well under way.

So here we go for the Ninja 500…

101 Dalmatians (or any breed of dog, in any quantity) allowed at Campingninja’s dog friendly campsites

117 days to go until the start of the Olympics and the party of happy campers Camping at the Games.

1 campsite available to book in beautiful Italy for anyone looking to escape Olympic fever in the UK this summer.

44 Spring daffodils brightening up the back garden.

More than 9 consecutive sunny days in a row in the Monkton Avenue area over the last couple of weeks and plenty of degrees warm enough for comfortable camping.

1 great Real Campers Meet Real Campsites campaign launched for keep it real campers.

5 whole more months left of every ninjas favourite, Spring/Summer camping season.

7 individual space raiders left in the bag for me to munch on while diarising the Ninja 500.

2 free days off work for the Easter weekend coming up.

4 spaces taken up with passengers in the ninja wagon, and 4 friends coming on this weekend’s camping trip.

8 precious centimetres of breathing space between each passenger with camping baggage squashed along the back seat of the ninja wagon.

10 minutes estimated until they all get slightly claustrophobic and annoyed!

A 12 track mixtape to listen to in the ninja wagon on our journey to the campsite – because for camping weekends away, it’s not just about where you’re going, but the fun you have on the way to getting there too.

3 pitches booked at the campsite and 173 miles of scenic driving to take in en-route.

A quick adding up on my solar powered camping calculator (because doesn’t everyone always take one of those camping with them?) totals an almost perfect 501.  That means 1 more space raider to eat, yummy!  Then the Ninja 500 is complete.  Magic!

2012 is all about the staycation! Visit Britain Campaign
It's official...this week we saw the launch of Visit Britain's "Staycation" campaign, and after weeks of talking about all the fantastic things you can do in the UK this summer we have summarised some of our best ideas for you! We can't wait for the camping season to kick off and in the words of Steven Fry.. "why on earth would any one go abroad in 2012"?!

 1) Combine your love of camping with the OLYMPIC and PARALYMPIC Games - We have 8 fantastic campsites scattered across London, Reading and Weymouth and for those who don't have tickets or those who just want to get the most out of there stay, check out all the extra stuff you can get involved in here!

2)Have your own JUBILEE celebrations - the Jubilee doesn't have to be all about street parties on your doorstep, you can also take the party elsewhere! Why not get away over the extended Bank Holiday and have your own celebrations amongst the Great British countryside! Get together with the family or a group of mates and head out on a brilliant camping adventure with bunting and a big old BBQ!

3) Plan a REAL camping adventure - this year we launched our own campaign, "Real Campers Meet Real Campsites" so why not exchange the creature comforts and sample a bit of wild camping....OK so we don't mean camping on a grass verge but for those of you on the cusp of going back to basic camping why not give it a go. There are some amazing campsites just waiting to be discovered! Check out our latest ones here

4)If not real camping why not GLAMPING - we're not suggesting bowling alley's in your tents but if your not quite ready for real camping or just fancy a change we have some beautiful campsites offering tipi's and pre-erected tents in spectacular locations, like this one... Dernwood

5) TOURING is not just for the Queen - one of the best things about a camping holiday in the UK is that you can make it your own! You don't have to stay in one place and this summer we will be following one of our campers tour South West England, Wales and Ireland in a 3 week whirlwind trip! Now we are not suggesting your tour has to stretch as far and wide as that but why not really explore an area and stay in a few different locations!

Let us know what great staycation ideas you have this summer by posting your comments below!

Keen campers getting involved in the Olympics! Southgate Hockey Club
Over the past 4 weeks we have seen an influx in bookings from keen campers who will be heading to either the Olympic or Paralympic games this summer and have decided to combine their love of camping with all the London 2012 activities!

Since we highlighted all the fantastic things that you can do during the games even if you haven't got a ticket we have received bookings from campers across the UK and beyond including Holland, Belgium, Scotland and Wales. With less than 150 days to go until the Olympics there is a real buzz in the air and our campsites are really excited about it too!

Aside from offering great value camping close to all the major Olympic venues and easily accessible to some great activities our sites will be offering a warm welcome in the clubhouse bar where you can soak up the sporting atmosphere and enjoy a summer BBQ!

We now also have Southgate Hockey Club on board, which is based just off the M25 and is only 45 minutes to the Olympic Park, Greenwich, the Canoe Slalom and all of the Central London venues via tube! It is also based in the picturesque 415 acre Trent Park so there are a host of outdoor activities to get involved with and Southgate is one of the sites which will be running hockey activities, so for hockey fans you can take part in the action as well as watch it!

For keen campers who still haven't checked out our sites, you can find them here!
