How does the sign up process work? Can you show me a video? |
We certainly can show you a video. Here it is

What is on-line booking? I have an e-mail booking form already? |
On-line booking is being able to search for a product you want, check availability, make a booking and receive confirmation all in one go. No e-mails requesting further information, no waiting for replies, and no trying to make endless phone calls during work lunch breaks.On-line booking is something people expect these days when making travel plans. You wouldn’t book a flight or a holiday overseas using books and on-line directories and ringing around 8 different airlines to see if they have availability, or by emailing them and waiting a day or two for a reply. Much research has been done about consumer expectation and these are 2 of many similar recent findings: “A third of travellers were frustrated by a lack of response to email enquiries and sites which weren’t bookable online” (Frommers’ Unlimited c/o Travelmole Apr 09)
“Researching and booking a holiday is a very time consuming process and competes with other work and household activities. People have limited time during lunch break and evenings, meaning they’re likely to get frustrated if it takes too long to find the information that they require.” (hotelmarketing.com Oct 08)

People already find my campsite, why should I use Campingninja? |
We hope they do! We are sure there are many others that don’t. We want campers to get into the right campsite for them and for you. How does a camper find availability for the coming weekend without telephoning and e-mailing 12 different campsites? Campers should be able to filter their searches to find exactly the right spot for them and check availability. By having your own page on our site with your descriptions, awards, photos, video (if you want it), green initiatives, rates and availability we are opening a new web based market for you. People struggle to find a campsite’s individual page if they don’t already have the name. We are promoting campsites by driving traffic to our site and allowing people to find and book your campsite.
I have allocated all my marketing budget already for this year. How much does it cost? |
Nothing. Campingninja is free for our campsite members. We do not charge annual fees, monthly subscription fees or a sign up fee. We work hard selling your pitches and we make 10% commission when we make a sale. The rest is paid direct to you on arrival.
I already have a website and an on-line presence. Why do I need to be on your site? |
Are you actively promoting your availability? Are people finding your site when they look up “Camping in Devon” or “Campsites in the Lake District” or “Camping Bog snorkelling” or “Campsite Brecon Beacons”. Are you coming out at the top of Google searches? We want to get the right campers into your campsite. Using our advanced and comprehensive search facility, campers can search for Camping in Devon, with a hot shower, toilets, car parking next to tent, electric hookup, availability, dogs accepted, with re-cycling, pub within walking distance, near a beach, good for walking.
And see your unlimited number of photos, your descriptions, your rates, your availability, your rules and policies and then make a booking! You may also start to be at a disadvantage when other campsites in your area are on Campingninja and can be booked online – your campsite won’t be found by anyone who is searching for availability and the ability to book
Our campsite is already listed online with other websites and lots of people book with us already, isn’t Campingninja just the same? |
We know that there are many other directory type sites out there and some do direct a lot of customers your way at the moment. The trouble is that unfortunately the camping industry has not been well serviced in terms of having websites which are easy to use and create a great experience for the camper and campsite. What makes Campingninja different is the ability to find availability and book online which is not possible right now as well as the sophisticated search. Not only that but the camper will be able to access lots of other information about your local area encouraging them to visit your part of the world. In other accommodation booking industries they are way ahead with the likes of hotels.com and hostelbookers.com. One of the other important differences for the campsite owner is that it is free – you have nothing to lose.
Is this on-line booking only for the bigger campsites and holiday parks? I only have a small number of pitches. |
Campingninja’s aim is to get the right people into your campsites. All you need is an active e-mail address or mobile phone to receive confirmed bookings. If you have 10 pitches in total you can sell 1 pitch through Campingninja. If you have 500 pitches on your campsite you can choose to sell 200 pitches if you wish. It’s up to you. By selling via us you will show up on the most comprehensive search and booking system in the industry.
Why does Campingninja think this will work? |
Campingninja has received significant industry backing in the form of investment and support and has access to travel industry research which tracks booking trends and expectations. The rest of the travel industry is largely already well-serviced in terms of online booking and availability searching be it for flights, hotels, hostels and holidays. The camping part of the travel industry has fallen behind and is in competition from these other sectors. Consumer experience at the booking stage has a massive bearing on the choices they make in terms of where to go. Campers are far more likely to book your campsite if it is quick and easy to find and they can see it is the right place for them; if they have the ability to share their favourites with their friends; if they can book their choice online with no fuss.
I have already invested a lot of money in a computer booking system for my campsite, I don’t want to change it or not use it now. |
You don’t have to. Whatever system you currently use, whether it is very high-tec, or a paper diary at your front desk, Campingninja will work alongside it. By allocating a number of pitches, you don’t have to update your Campingninja availability every time you receive a booking from elsewhere. We are not attempting to integrate our system with yours as we are well aware that all campsites work differently and in a way which suites them.

I’m worried about the wrong type of people coming to my campsite. For example I don’t accept single sex groups but do accept families, that’s why I like to talk to them first. Won’t I lose control of this with everything being online? |
This was one of the first concerns raised to us. In 2009 70% of people looking for holidays in the UK expect to find and book on-line. So how can a campsite meet this customer service demand without having to vet each customer over the phone? The site has been built so campsite owners select which type of people they accept. For example Families welcome, Adults only, Single Sex Groups Welcome etc. On Campingninja, Campers filter on the types of campsite which works for them to make sure they are booking where they will be welcome. On top of this, a campsite has a designated space to write their rules and policies. These are displayed before a booking can be completed and are something the camper must agree to abide by as part of the booking conditions. As well as this, these are then again repeated on the printable confirmation e-mail the camper receives.
These are changeable at anytime by the campsite owner
If you accept families, dogs, student groups etc great. Or if you don’t accept children, motorhomes, ball games, single sex groups etc great. Our research has shown that as well as the campsite owners concerns this is a huge concern for potential campers as well. They want to book a campsite where they are comfortable and feel welcome. Campingninja’s aim is to get the right campers into the right campsites.

How does Campingninja work? |
Campingninja works for campsites as hotels.com works for hotels and bed and breakfasts; it works how hostelbookers.com works for hostels and guest houses; it works how laterooms.com works for all of these accomodation types. As a campsite owner you sign up your campsite and add all the details as prompted – photos, video, facilities, things to do in local area, what is allowed and not allowed, green credentials, awards, rates – you easily have a page created for you. Then you enter in your rates and seasons – this can be as complex or as simple as you require. You allocate a number of pitches to go on sale (you don’t have to put all available pitches on your campsite – we know you need to be able to easily take other bookings. This is all free.
Then when a camper is looking for campsites in your area and searching for availability or on any specific facilities or activties etc you provide, then your campsite will appear as available.
The customer then pays 10% of the total cost to Campingninja and makes a booking after agreeing to your terms and conditions and the confirmed booking and all the details you need will be sent immediately via email and sms (if you require).
The camper then pays the rest, the 90%, of the amount on arrival in whatever way you take payments.
Will I have to spend ages managing these bookings through Campingninja? |
Absolutely not. Rather than having to answer the phone or spend your money calling customers back, or spend valuable time answering e-mail queries you will only receive confirmed bookings by e-mail. These will state who has booked, for how long, their details (should you need them) and what they need to pay on arrival.
Will I need to telephone or e-mail Campingninja every time I want to change my rates, pictures, video, seasons or descriptions? |

Not at all. Once you have opened your free account you can treat your campsite page on Campingninja as your own editable webpage. As you can see on the left hand side you can edit any of these things at a touch a button.
What if I am fully booked for some weekends? |
That’s exactly what we want. Happy campers, happy campsite owners and a thriving industry bringing revenue into local communities. Campingninja is here to be an additional source of revenue for you and a new way of selling. If you are fully booked on some weekends great but we can sell the Monday – Thursday pitches. We can sell April, May, June and September pitches and the rest of the year. In fact we are selling for you everyday of the year. If you have a late cancellation on a bank holiday we can sell that. As the campsite owner you have complete control of how many pitches you wish to sell and when.
I have different seasons throughout the year. Can you deal with that and the different rates? |
When you input your details you set your seasons. Whether you call them “High season, Peak season, Low season, off season” it doesn’t matter. You can enter as many seasons as you wish and have different rates for different seasons. You can name them, change them, add them and delete them – it’s up to you.

I have a different tariff structure to other campsites. For example I charge extra for things like electric hook ups, additional children, cars etc? |
No problem at all. We are keen campers here at Campingninja and know that campsites have different pricing structures! Before designing the pricing section we spoke to and researched hundreds of different pricing models. When you enter your pricing structure you can add as many extras as you wish and our model is flexible enough to include most pricing models.
Do I need to be Enjoy England, Visit Wales or Visit Scotland accredited to be on Campingninja? |
No you don’t. Campingninja is inclusive of all and every campsite. If you do have official accreditation this will be displayed proudly on your own site with the official logos. Provided to us by the relative National Tourist Boards It will also be possible for people to search and filter for campsites which have accreditation and make their holiday decisions based on those results.
Can I add late availability? |
Absolutely. As keen campers ourselves and from our research we know the biggest gripe in the industry is the way in which finding late availability is so difficult. When you check the weather forecast on a Wednesday and the weekend looks great and you decide to go camping. But where? It can take over 10 telephone calls to campsites try to find availability. We are giving the campsite owner the chance to shout about when they have availability so people can find the right campsites.
We have many awards we have worked hard to achieve and are very proud of. Can we display them? |
Not only display them but for the first time people will be able to filter on them as well. We have been working with the AA, Visit Wales, Visit Scotland, Enjoy England, Green Business Tourism Scheme, David Bellamy award, the BH & HPA and Loo of the Year award to make sure we display those award you have. People can then filter and search for campsites with your awards.
I only accept tents and campervans. We can’t accept caravans due to the terrain. Is this ok? |
Sure. You list what you accept. This will then come up in searches. If you accept caravans, great. You can sell hook ups to them and hard standing pitches. If you accept only tents, great. Tick tent only and benefit from attracting the right people.
How will Campingninja make my life easier? |
All you will receive from Campingninja is fully confirmed bookings by e-mail with all the campers details. We also offer an SMS/text service to campsite owners. This is completely free of charge. Campingninja pays for the texts not yourselves. You can view all your bookings past, present and future on your Campsite owners’ section. No need to e-mail campers back, no need to answer telephone calls. No need to check for messages on your answer machine and call people back. You set the availability and rates for your site. If you are quiet, why not increase your availability for that period of time and generate new customers. Remember customers are looking for availability on-line, especially for last minute trips. Your site’s availability needs to be visible so people can find it.
I need to take a deposit from the camper. Can you do this? |
Our simple model is based on Campingninja taking a non-refundable 10% up front from the camper. The camper then pays 90% on arrival to the campsite. This model is designed to be as efficient as possible and minimise expensive invoicing and transaction costs between us and you the campsite owner.
Extra Deposit transferred to Campsite We realise that some campsites like to take a deposit from the camper to secure a booking and minimise the risk of no shows. Campingninja has been built to allow this but it does add to costs. Campingninja can take a 30% non-refundable deposit from the camper at the point of booking. We will retain 10% and pass on the 20% to you at the end of each month with a full breakdown on the bookings. The remaining 70% will be paid on arrival by the camper. This way a campsite which insists on taking their own deposits can be accommodated. If you would like us to arrange this extra for you please contact us. The cost for this extra administration and transfer fees is £25 per year. Campingninja will cover the cost of higher transaction charges for Credit cards and the bank charges of transferring the funds to you at the end of each month.
