Campsite Description

Campsite overview

Swanage Bijou Campsite the closest, and walking distance, to the Swanage Town centre and sandy beaches. Set in town, but in a secluded 6 acre field and surrounded by high hedges backed by open public land the site is over 100 meters away from the nearest roads or houses.

We offer camping as it used to be. Simple but clean basic facilities and a relaxed un-fussy site where you choose where to camp. The newly created site at Kirkwood Park 18 hole Pitch and Putt is so close the town centre and beach that we hope you shall want to save money and faff by leaving you car with us and enjoy a car free holiday! Our key advantages are - walking distance to town and sandy beach, 100% level camping, level walk into town, no cars in the camping area (child safe and no noisy radios), and open fires are allowed (on trays provided by us free of charge).

We only ask for respect to other campers and our noise rules are hushed voices from 11 and silence from midnight.

We apologise but due to the explosion of friday and saturday night only bookings we will now only accept bookings which include a friday or saturday night if it is for two or more nights.

Great activities / places of interest within walking distance

One free car parking space is provided for each tent and we are so close to the centre and beach that we hope you will want save the outside parking costs and faff by just leaving your car with us and walking!

The surrounding fields are public open space for kite flying or ball games with free modern children’s adventure play ground and free skateboard park about 100 meters away.

Use of off site leisure facilities (one mile away) including gymnasium, Jacuzzi, sauna, indoor pool and bar are available at a local hotel at extra charge.

The Swanage Steam Railway runs along next to our site and is a great day trip to Corfe Castle or can let you have a night out there by catching the last noisy one back!

Beautiful walks permeate the whole area and you can choose windy white cliff tops, grassy barrow topped hills, the rolling Jurrassic coastline, ancient forests full of deer, deserted beaches along Poole Harbour or a scamper over the Studland dunes trying not to step on the nudists!

Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove are not far but better unknown jewels are even closer.

Maybe go up to the infamous Square and Compass pub for sea views, real ale and cider served over the hatch in the kitchen and then walk or cycle the Priests way home in the dark.

Or how about renting a bike or taking out a horse and visiting the Agglestone - the list goes on and on!!

There are superb scenic golf couses and the best kitesurfing in Britain right here too!

Other attractions like Monkey World and the Tank museum are easy to get to and of course the Pitch and Putt, at discounted rates, is right on your doorstep!

Great activities / places of interest a little further afield

There is loads more 20 minutes by car away and we can tell you about these when you arrive but we wont bother to list these as we don't think you will have time!!

Local events / what's on near us

Swanage is a thriving tourist destination and not to be missed is the carnival which lasts one week from the last week end in July with loads of events and fantastic firework displays (which go on every saturday night through august just five minutes walk from our site).

Travel to our campsite using public transport

You can take the train to Wareham and then a bus link to Swanage and there are regular busses from Bournemouth and Poole to Swanage. From Swanage Centre it is a 10 minute walk or £5 taxi to the Swanage Bijou Camping site.

Green Initiatives

Green Inititatives
The first thing that you will notice about the Swnage Bijou Campsite is that not every inch of land has been made available to campers - we want to share it with the wildlife that lives on the site! The site is pesticide and herbicide free and being 16 acres in total with large wild areas it attracts many birds, butterfies and other insects. Water voles, badgers, foxes and deer also live here!
We recycle meticulously and expect our guests to help us by thoughfully using the recycle buckets that we give to every visitor. The wood we use for our camp fires is cut from elm trees killed off by the Dutch Elm disease and is from our own site.
